Lynn Pinker Hurst & Schwegmann Recognized in National Law Journal’s Verdicts Hall of Fame

The National Law Journal has honored Lynn Pinker Hurst & Schwegmann in its recently published Verdicts Hall of Fame based on the firm’s role in securing a $145 million verdict in a high-profile energy sector dispute.

The verdict on behalf of Mesa Petroleum Partners L.P. and legendary Texas oilman T. Boone Pickens is featured as the largest energy verdict in the United States between 2016 and 2020.

In 2016, a West Texas jury found Baytech, LLP, Delaware Basin Resources, LLC, and J. Cleo Thompson liable for wrongly excluding Mr. Pickens and Mesa from energy-producing acquisitions, violating agreements that Mesa had signed with the three companies in 2007. The contract required Mesa to be offered a 15 percent stake in new oil and gas assets acquired in the Delaware Basin in West Texas.

Lynn Pinker Hurst & Schwegmann name partner Mike Lynn, partners David Coale and Andres Correa, and attorney Pat Disbennett were part of the legal team that represented Mesa, which also included Chrysta Castaneda of The Castaneda Firm, Bill Weinacht of The Weinacht Law Firm, and Alva Alvarez of The Alvarez Law Firm of Pecos, Texas.

The case is Mesa Petroleum Partners L.P. v. Baytech, LLP, Patriot Resources, Inc. and J. Cleo Thompson & James Cleo Thompson, Jr. L.P. et al.
