LPHS Attorneys Secure $250K Win for Fort Worth Family in Pro Bono Case

A LPHS trial team led by Jessie Cox and Gloria Cangéhas won a $258,140 jury verdict for a Fort Worth family resulting from a long-running dispute with their landlord. In a case that was handled pro bono by the firm, jurors in Tarrant County District Court returned a verdict awarding $8,140 in actual damages – covering charges the family paid while living in the home --  and $250,000 in punitive damages against the landlord for failing to comply with terms of the lease and taking retaliatory actions against the family.

The firm was brought into the case when an LPHS paralegal learned of the family’s struggles.

“It’s astonishing how talented these young lawyers are,” saidMike Lynn, the firm’s founder and chairman told The Texas Lawbook. “They served a valuable function for their clients and for our firm. And if another pro bono case comes along, we’ll take that one, too.”
