Mary Goodrich Nix Featured in Newsweek on “Two Weeks’ Notice” Requirements

An online post documenting a boss refusing to accept an employee’s two weeks' notice of resignation went viral recently, prompting Newsweek to contact LPHS partner Mary Goodrich Nix about the legal ramifications. "Unless the employee has a contract that states otherwise, they can resign voluntarily at any time for any reason," she said in the article. While some states have employer requirements even when an employee is not under contract, Mary noted "I'm not aware of any state requiring an at-will employee to stay working at an employer they no longer wish to work for." Through the Newsweek syndicate the article can be found in publications nationwide.
