David Coale Reviews New Covid Masking Law with Law360

In an interview with Law360, David Coale recently discussed Texas Senate Bill 29, which forbids governmental bodies from implementing mask or vaccine mandates and prevents them from forcing the closure of private businesses and schools related to the COVID-19 virus. The law goes into effect of September 1.

“By passing such a specific law, the proponents of a future 'wear something' ordinance could argue that the Legislature tacitly accepted the city's power to pass such a law, since the Legislature had the opportunity to take that power away entirely in these laws and chose only to take away a little sliver of it," said Coale.
