David Coale Named Director of National Speech & Debate Association

The National Speech & Debate Association has named LPHS partner David Coale to the organization’s board of directors for the 2026-2027 academic year. The NSDA builds and maintains the infrastructure for speech and debate competitions across the U.S. and around the world by providing topics, educational resources, and training for students and coaches, culminating each year in the National Tournament, the largest academic competition in the world. 

In 1986, David won the UIL 4A state championship title in cross examination debate for Allen ISD. In 2025, his son, Camden won the 5A state championship for the Highland Park ISD, becoming the only father-son combo to ever both win Texas state debate championships. 

“Policy debate was the foundation for my legal career, and I’m proud to share that passion with my son and now with a broader audience through the great work of the NSDA,” David says.
