David Coale Provides Insight into Texas Supreme Court Rulings on Facebook, Mass Shootings
The Texas Supreme Court closed its recent session with two opinions, finding that Academy Sports & Goods could not be found liable for supplying the weapon used in the 2017 Sutherland Springs shootings while ruling that Facebook could face liability when sex traffickers use the platform to prey on children. LPHS’ David Coale responded to questions on KLIF Radio if these cases have a chance to be heard at the U.S. Supreme Court.
“Both cases have probably run out of steam in the Texas Supreme Court because they came up through the state system. They do present questions of federal law, so it’s possible. But this particular setting, it’s going to be a little bit of a reach. This may be the last word for now until Congress takes a look back at these statutes and decides whether to tinker with them some more.”
