Steven Gersten

Steven G. Gersten joined LPHS in 2025 as Of Counsel, bringing extensive experience in general litigation across a broad range of practice areas. With a strong background in state and federal court civil litigation, bankruptcy litigation, administrative law, and arbitration, Steven’s matters routinely involve complex contractual disputes, partnership disputes, fiduciary duty claims, trade secret and non-compete litigation, business torts, land use issues, bankruptcy litigation, and regulatory disputes, among others. Steven’s clients have likewise spanned a range of industries, including telecom, transportation, construction, healthcare, energy, real estate, aerospace and defense, and energy, as well as private individuals embroiled in personal disputes.

Steven earned his B.A. from Queens College, graduating cum laude in the top 10% of his class. He went on to earn his J.D. from Washington University in St. Louis School of Law, graduating magna cum laude in the top 5%. During law school, he served as a Senior Staff Editor for the Washington University Law Review and competed on the National Moot Court Team. His advocacy skills earned him Best Brief at the ABA Appellate Advocacy Regional Competition, as well as the Judge Amandus Brackman Moot Court Award.

Steven began his legal career at Jones Day, where he specialized in False Claims Act litigation as part of the Business and Tort Litigation practice. He then joined Stanton LLP, handling state and federal litigation, arbitration proceedings, and white-collar matters. There, he led an international, multidisciplinary team of attorneys and consultants as part of a court-appointed export-compliance monitorship, overseeing complex investigations involving hundreds of witness interviews across the globe.

Before LPHS, Steven worked for Sheppard Mullin Richter & Hampton, LLP as a Litigation Associate, where he maintained a generalist’s docket, with particular focus on bankruptcy litigation and civil litigation in state and federal courts across the country. Among his notable victories there, Steven’s leadership efforts helped secure a highly favorable eight-figure settlement in a decade-long property dispute between family members, millions in PPP loans for debtors in bankruptcy after challenging the Small Business Administration’s rules excluding debtors from the PPP program, and the settlement of a nearly $60 million secured creditor claim asserted by a foreign conglomerate against another debtor client. Steven is also a skilled investigator, with extensive experience managing multinational, internal and externalinvestigations, often in parallel to DOJ and SEC investigations.

Outside of work, Steven enjoys spending time with his wife Shira and young daughters, Lily and Kaylee. You might also find him polishing up his southern barbecue skills, watching a true-crime documentary, taking a cold plunge, rounding the bases in DAYL’s softball league, or savoring a volume from his Vonnegut library.
