Chris Patton Discusses Stars-Mavs Lawsuit with The Texas Lawbook
Now set for a January trial date in the relatively new Texas Business Court system, the Dallas Mavericks and Dallas Stars are facing off in high-profile litigation over partnership agreements and control of the American Airlines Center. In an interview with The Texas Lawbook, LPHS partner Chris Patton says this type of high-stakes lawsuit and speedy trial setting shows the purpose and promise of the business courts. The case is being heard less than four months following the original filing.
“I genuinely believe this kind of dispute is what the Business Court [was] designed for,” Patton said. “This is really a high-stakes contractual matter with very detailed contractual provisions, very technical contracts between multiple parties, and on multiple levels.”
In June, Chris and an LPHS team secured a favorable ruling for the firm’s client in the first contested final judgment heard by the state’s business courts.
