Chris Patton Discusses Former MLB Pitcher’s Lawsuit Claiming Trade Secrets Theft

A former MLB pitcher is claiming the Astros stole his on-field signs during an August 2017 game in a trade secrets lawsuit against the team. In an interview with Law360, LPHS partner Chris Patton and co-author of the book "Texas Trade Secret Litigation" agrees the Astros cheating scandal was wrong but does not believe the claim falls under a trade secrets statute.

“If what we're talking about are catcher's signs that he shows the pitcher during the game, those are public in a lot of ways. A runner on second can see those signs, a fan with binoculars.”
