Chris Patton Comments on Election, Ballot Confusion in Dallas County

LPHS Partner Chris Patton spoke with KERA-Radio in the aftermath of voter confusion and dueling legal opinions about the Democratic primary election in Dallas County. With a ruling by a county judge to keep polls open until 9 p.m., followed by the Texas Supreme Court’s decision to separate ballots cast after 7 p.m., uncertainty remained post-election day if and when the disputed ballots would be counted.

“I don't know whether they're going to be included in the preliminary or final results,” said Chris. “I know the process is they segregate them. And that's what the Texas Supreme Court said to do.” He noted the ballots may ultimately be counted or the Supreme Court may rule that “the extension is invalid and the segregated ballots would not be counted.”
