Mr. Tolley earned his J.D. as a Cornerstone Scholar from the University of Chicago Law School in 2003. He received the Thomas R. Mulroy Prize for excellence in appellate advocacy and oral argument in the Hinton Moot Court Competition, and later served on the Hinton Moot Court Board. Prior to law school, Mr. Tolley attended Brigham Young University on scholarship and served as Vice-President of his freshman class. He graduated in three years with a B.A. in International Studies: Law & Diplomacy and a minor in German Studies.
Before joining the firm, Mr. Tolley practiced in the trial practice group in the Dallas office of Jones Day. Prior to that, he interned at the New York, Mannheim, and Frankfurt offices of Shearman & Sterling, working in complex litigation and international arbitration. Mr. Tolley, the oldest of six children, grew up in a military family stationed in Western Europe and throughout the United States.
Mr. Tolley is conversationally fluent in German, due in large part to a two-year church mission in Germany. He prides himself on the fact that he proposed to his wife, Mikki, just two weeks after their first date, and they now have three wonderful children. Mr. Tolley enjoys playing soccer, camping, and biking, and his passion is the study of American history.
